We’ve partnered up with various companies like Facebook, Sony, Intuit, and ServiceNow through various events, including workshops, design centric career fairs, design jams, and social events among others to promote community within the design field.
learn more about our storyI worked intensively with the Community Engagement Coordinators on my team to ensure that we are fostering a community of growth and inclusivity, both externally and internally. With that goal in mind, our team has been able to meet much of the community through multiple social and networking events. Internally, I plan board retreats that allow our leadership team to strengthen our bonds, and gives a chance for everyone to talk to each other and see the person behind the designers.
My goal was to create content through different forms such as, promotional videos and lookbooks, in order to increase our reach and grow our online brand. Through our content, we have been able raise awareness about design and the possible career paths within it, as well as allowing Design Co itself to keep flourishing. We accumulated thousands of views across multiple platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. Our content has even made it overseas to other continents!
As I learned more about the fundamentals of design and interaction, I couldn't help but feel a bit of imposter syndrome. After countless student projects, assignments, and reports I still felt like I only knew the bare minimum. Thankfully, I was introduced to the community soon after.
I was still somewhat uncomfortable with my overall design knowledge and skillset. However, as I got to attend more events and really got to know the designers around me, I felt incredibly supported. I gladfully took on a role as a Community Engagement Coordinator to give back to a system that has been so positive for me.
Having a lot of talented and inspirational individuals around me has been beneficial with keeping me in check and motivating me to both be a better designer and person overall.
Being on the leadership team has also allowed me to give back to the community, and assist those students who were in the same situation as me when I first started as a product designer. In a way, leading different workshops and networking sessions had not only gave me more confidence, but allowed me to delve in deeper into the psyche of a designer.
Created a prototype-inspired intro card for all 4 of the Design Co leadership teams. Utilized our brand favorite of duotones and individual love for music to create a design that showcases each board member off as well as uniting the entire team.
Written, filmed, and edited within 2 weeks, our goal was to showcase the first ever merchandise line for Design Co. Designers come from everywhere, and gain their inspiration from various means as shown in the video. We were able to shoot a full lookbook video as well as the teaser and a behind the scenes to accompany it.
Being a part of the community has also allowed me to meet other designers who share a similar eagerness for innovation, while also igniting the (playful) competitiveness I yearned since the beginning of my college years. I also want to affirm the the rest of the Design Co team for being amazing and inspiring individuals, and for always pushing one another to reach past their potential. There aren’t many courses at UC San Diego that teach the importance of soft skills, if any, so a great amount of experiences gained was a result of the different events we were able to hold throughout the years. I will always be grateful for every moment, lesson, and person that has truly made my time at Design Co.
Y'ALL ARE THE GREATEST!
